Megan's World

I have been many things, and one of them is a denizen of the old days of the net. Dial-up, BBS, door games, 2400 baud modem days. I had geocities websites when I was in college, several of them - one where I posted a pattern I made for a Ghawazee coat back when I was a baby belly dancer, another where some classmates and I posted funny quotes from our professors. I miss those days of the web.

These days I live in Richmond VA in a little 1950s brick house with my two sons, two cats, and try to live my best life doing my various things to keep entertained.

Why are we even here?

Well, when the TikTok ban happened, I realized I didn't really want anything to do with the toxic broligarchy of the Metaverse. I am on bluesky, you can catch me there now and then, but I think 2025 will be my year to explore the old ways of the web: personal sites and web forums. I think it's a lot of nostalgia driving me, but I am tired of endlessly scrolling and remembering the "good old days" when we all had a geocities and just emailed each other. I haven't fully left Insta or fb yet, but will be using them much less.

If you are similarly feeling nostalgic for the old days, or just wanting to keep in touch, send me your neocities link and I'll add you to my links page so we can visit each other's sites. Keeping in touch, right?

Check out my Links page for places I go a lot online, friends, forums, and how to email me.

What I'm Reading...

Jacquelyn Benson, "Tomb of the Sun King"

Check out my reading log! I haven't set a 2025 goal but I have a pile of books to read and if I can break the social media cycle, maybe I can get through them better. I'm a fast reader, but there are times I don't have the spoons to stick with it.
