Have we met?

Once upon a time, I was an archaeologist. Once upon a time, I was a belly dancer. I have a much different job now (I'm a Fed, we'll leave it at that) and I retired from dance a couple years ago, though I occasionally go attend a class just for a jam session. I grew up a Navy brat and have lived all over, but have spent most of my adult life in Virginia.

I'm a collector of hobbies. Some things I do: aerial silks, stained glass, weaving, sewing, painting (oils, acrylic), crochet, reading, writing. I could list about fifty more things I've tried in the past but don't regularly do any more. Sometimes hobbies stick long-term, and sometimes they were a fun thing I learned but don't incorporate into my free time. I love trying out new art forms. I play the zils (finger cymbals), a bit of doumbek, and sometimes work on ukulele and bodhran. I spend a lot of time in my art studio when I'm at home.

I like to travel. I've been to every state except Alaska, and several countries in Europe and the Middle East. In 2024 I went to Ireland and Jamaica. Planning on Scotland in 2025. I love vintage things and thrifting, and I love to shop. I've been known to hike in the woods, and I can wander museums for hours. I'm a big fan of historical sites, too. I have two tiny house-predators who mostly laze around my house sleeping and demanding to be fed, Petrie and Gertie.

I have identical twin sons who are 20. They are PC gamers and stick around Discord but otherwise eschew both social media and email, and we like to speak in fake German accents to each other around the house. They live with me, work full time, and take care of the house and cats when I go on trips. I won't have a picture of them here since they're adults now, but if you make it to my private Instagram, there's lots of photos there (with their permission).

I like to dye my hair bright colors, wear crazy earrings, and tell stories. My house is painted bright colors too, and I painted a mural in the hallway so one wall looks like it was knitted. I speak French, though not as well as I used to, and in college I studied several languages: Italian, Latin, Portuguese, German. I am happily divorced and occasionally date, but mostly I like being single.
